DE JERSEY & Co, FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY, silver medal, 1877, by Elkington & Co, fa?ade of the company's warehouse, in the Venetian style, lettered edge, reverse: figure of Industry holding an oil lamp and a hammer resting on an anvil, beyond a warehouse and sailing ship, 89.16gms, 60.5mm, some light scratches to the reverse, VF, obverse extremely fine, extremely rare. The medal is not listed by Taylor, Brown [BHM], Eimer or Forrer. The Manchester Art Gallery has a specimen in copper. De Jersey & Co were Manchester textile merchants, founded by German brothers Johann Andreas and Johann Heinrich Freichs, from Bremen. Their splendid warehouse at 14 Blackfriars Street is still standing.
