Decorative Arts: The Starbuck family of Nantucket; a watercolour on ivory portrait miniature of an older gentleman, possibly Samuel Starbuck. Unsigned. Ebonised frame measures 14cm by 11.5cm. Part of the Starbuck archive being sold through this saleroom. The Starbuck family were prominent in the anti-slavery movement both in the UK and the USA. Having been involved in the founding of Nantucket, members of the family emigrated to Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, after the American Revolutionary War and continued their successful whaling business.
