A Southern Railway cabside numberplate, SOUTHERN RAILWAY, 2068. From a London Brighton & South Coast Railway B4 Class 4-4-0 No 68 MARLBOROUGH built by Sharp, Stewart & Co, Works No 4775 in 1901. Became SR 2068 by which time it had lost its name. It was withdrawn in 1935 and rebuilt using the frames from B4 Class 2059, the rebuild carrying the number 2068. Loaned to the LNER in November 1941, initially at Neville Hill and finally at York. Returned to the Southern in December 1944 and placed in store. Withdrawn in May 1951 without being renumbered and scrapped at Brighton Works. Cast brass, 13¾"x7½", cleaned but unpainted, a little distressed at fixings from removal. (Postage Band: C)
