Enlisted on 18th October 1929. Captured in Italy on 8th September 1943 whilst serving with the 5th Battalion, Royal Hampshire Regiment, 46th Division. First incarcerated in Prisoner of War Camp 11A from 6th November 1943 until 12th February 1945. Arriving at Camp 3257 on 18th February 1945. Left the camp on 2nd March 1945 and walked to the Allied Lines.
