A RARE 15TH CENTURY FRENCH CARVED WALNUT COFFER,With hinge lid above carved panel in relief with a knight in armour, mounted on horseback, before a crowd of onlookers and soldiers, holding a banner embellished with a cross, the sides with carved with gothic tracery, two tiers of ogee ended roundels with floriated quatrefoil centres, the lower tier with floriated finials.raised on circular carved plinth base, with original concealed lock secured by a large, square headed iron bolt through the front panel and top.(h 67cm x d 65cm x w 128cm)Provenance: private collection London, Arthur Seager (19-10-99)
