ZANTE 1587 & CORFU 1808/10 (INWARD) - INC. RARE EARLY LADIES LETTER - 25 Oct. 1587 EL (complete seal-triangle; some stains - mainly internal) from "Venecia" written and signed by "Julia Vendra Min" (a family letter to her brother). A very early letter to be written by a woman and thought to be the only such letter recorded to Zante in the entire Venetian Period (1386-1797). Plus 6 Aug. 1808 EL (forwarding a letter from the addressee's wife - to evade postage charges!) from Naples to a French Colonel of the Engineers at "Corfou" with a fine oval "MINISTRO DE AZIENDA" cachet and so sent free of postage; and 1808/10 pair of ELs (one stained & one with pin-hole) from Venice to Patrichio in Corfu.
