Indian Army 5th Light Infantry Military Cross IGS Medal Pair Attributed to Second Lieutenant Roy Alexander Etherington, for operations on the North West Frontier 1919.
Comprising:
Military Cross this contemporary privately engraved 2/LT R.A. ETHERINGTON 5/L INFTY INDIA NWF 1919. Retaining original ribbon and pin fitting contained in box of issue.
India General Service Medal clasp Afghanistan NWF 1919 (2/LT R.A. ETHERINGTON 5/INFTY)
Also a small quantity of modern research. Bosleys have been unable to confirm the award of the MC.
Second Lieutenant Roy Alexander Etherington volunteered for service with the Australian Imperial Forces on the 6th March 1916, his parents living in New South Wales his age 18 1/2 years. He embarked in December 1916 to England and was discharged for a commission in the Indian Army September 1917. He was confirmed a Second Lieutenant on the 31st August 1918 and Lieutenant August 1919. He resigned his commission in 1922. In 1924 he is noted as running a radio business in Reading UK. He is entitled to the BWM and VM to be issued by the Indian Government (Not confirmed as issued)
