Roger Tattersall, emigrated to Canada, alone when he was 17 years old, whilst there he enlisted in the Canadian Guards, and served with them and NATO in Germany (Army of the Rhine), on completion of the deployment, he returned back to the UK, and was to become a mobile mechanic with the A.A, for a while, he then joined one Para (Parachute Regiment) A Coy and served alongside Peter McAleese whose medal group we sold in June 2020, they would serve together in Bahrain, Tattersall returned to the UK where he passed selection for 22 SAS, and was deployed to Aden, where he became embroilled in the 'Radfan' Crisis, it is believed from sources in the family and colleagues, that Tattersall was part of the 'Ill-fated' Edwards Patrol on 29th April, 1964, the local tribesman and NLF attacked this patrol, consisting of units assisted by A Sqdn SAS, Tattersall at this time was attached to A Sqdn. Captain Edwards and a Sapper Warburton were Killed in Action and the fighting was so intense that the British had to withdraw, sadly the two dead, were left and were later de-capitated and their heads put on Stakes which were paraded around the Yemeni Capital, Tattersall would later tell others about the patrol including another soldier Chris Harris, eye witness accounts seemed to differ from the official Government story, in fact at first the Government of the day denied that the SAS were even in Aden, in total Tattersall served with the SAS from 1961-1968, during this period he also served in Borneo and again served with Peter McAleese on at least one SAS mission, Tattersall married, and left for Rhodesia where he served with the Rhodesian SAS. & South African Recon Commando, he also served under a Major Erroll Mann, Tattersall would retire from the forces and later would carve out a successful Career in Civil Engineering in the UK. Roger Tattersall sadly passed away on 29th October, 2020
