Sir John Pettus. 'Fodinae Regales,' 1670. 'Or The History, Laws and Places of the Chief Mines and Mineral Works in England, Wales and the English Pale in Ireland,' first edition, rebound in full speckled embossed calf (a very handsome binding), 108 pages, with an explanation of several words used in this history, as an essay to the larger dictionary of Metallick and Chymical words mentioned in the preface (6 pages) at the back, a good copy, scarce, H. L. and R. B. for Thomas Basset at the George in Fleetstreet, London, 1670. The standard 17th century English work on mining by the deputy governor of the Royal Mines, including the first dictionary in English of mining terms and considerable technical information on mining, metallurgy and coinage.
