** BETWEEN THE WARS - RARE VERY EARLY CANADA TRANSATLANTIC COVER TO FRANCE, ETC.; Fine 26 Sept. 1766 EL (folds neatly to display internal heading beside the address) from "Quebec" to Chateaudun with fine "DANGLETERRE" and "26[sous]" arrival charge, presumably routed via London, Calais and Paris. Pre-1770 Transatlantic letters sent from Canada are very rare; this cover was sent soon after the first British P.O. had opened in Canada (in August 1763). Plus 1761/72 pair from France to G.B.; mainly fine tiny "de Bayonne" charged "2/6" to London via Paris, and fair 2-ring "BORDEAUX/PORT/PAYE" to Leeds charged "1N2" (but "16 pence" on flap - incl. 2d extra local unofficial Leeds rate). Good trio. (3 covers)Cross Reference: CANADA, FRANCE, TRANSATLANTIC MAIL, YORKSHIRE
