£2,500
A (GWR) cabside numberplate, 1646, from a 1600 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon and allocated new to Swansea East Dock in May 1951. It then moved north to Croes Newydd but in February 1957 it moved much farther north to Scotland where it was allocated to Helmsdale with sister engine 1649 for working the former Highland Railway branch from The Mound to Dornoch. It moved to Perth in July 1962 following closure of the Dornoch Branch and was withdrawn the following December, remaining in store at Perth until September 1963 when it was sent to Cowlairs Works for scrapping. Cast brass in ex loco condition and the only cabside to have appeared in auction from one of the Helmsdale pair, this same plate having been sold by ourselves in 2002. Cast brass, ex loco condition. (Postage Band: D)
