LAMBTON, bankers in Newcastle on Tyne, requesting a character reference prior to agreeing a loan; "Messrs W.H. Lambton & Co., Newcastle upon Tyne, Gentlemen, I have to request the favour of your confidential opinion as to the respectability and standing of Mr Alexander Walker, of your Town, and whether you consider that he may be regarded as trustworthy to the extent of £800 - I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient Servant, G. Pollard, Manager. P.S. We are informed that Mr Walker is an Agent & wholesale grocer, was formerly in a Bank, and lives at Elysium, Bensham, Gateshead."
