An American .45” percussion Plains Rifle, c 1850, 46” overall, heavy octagonal barrel 30” with breech drum, deep 9 groove rifling, block rearsight and blade fore-sight, and stamped near the breech “I. MARSH”; flat lock of flintlock shape engraved with double line border and naive game birds, and with faint maker’s name “----- O-LCHER” (E. Goulcher of Philadelphia); maple (?) halfstock with pewter fore end cap, pale brass trigger guard with spur grip, and deeply concave butt plate, with white metal decorative inlay to butt, rectangular escutcheon, small side plate, and large barrel wedge plates. GWO & C (the breech drum a later replacement, worn from much use). Plate £350-500
