A Maori Wakahuia or feather box, 19th century, North Island, New Zealand, the box and cover carved all over with haehae and dog tooth notching, tiki mask terminals to each end, 44cm long
The box shows a small loss approximately 1cm wide extending to a 1cm split to the wood to one end, and a split to the wood approximately 8.5cm long to the other. There is evidence of a repaired hole approximately 7mm diameter to the base. The box and cover both show wear to the carved details including the odd nibble to the high points.
