A rare Queen Anne pewter ‘transitional’ flagon, circa 1705

Having a tapering straight-sided body with high and low fillets, centred by the engraved initials ‘B’ over ‘W C’ and ‘I N’, along with the date ‘1713’, a flared skirt footrim and domed Beefeater-style lid with acorn-shaped knop, twin-lobed thumbpiece, touchmark to swan-neck handle of John Newman, London, (fl.1699-1733), (PS6729), and with shield terminal, height 31.2cm
