Circle of Thomas Rowlandson (British, 1759-1827) Sir Jacob Jallop and Major Strugeon in an interior setting, from Samuel Foote's the Mayor of Garratt; a rustic dance with musicians (reverse of sheet) indistinctly initialled and dated '96 lower left, and one side inscribed with the character names and title of the play chalk, ink and wash drawings on paper 27 x 37 cm A similar composition with the two characters from Foote's popular circa 1763-4 play The Mayor of Garratt, was also rendered by Johann Joseph Zoffany, and circulated in a contemporaneous engraving by J. F. Haid.
