Two Shipibo terracotta pottery vessels, 20th C, geometric patterns in brown and red on both, the smaller also features a face with protruding features. The larger measures 21cm high, the smaller 15cm high(2).
Acquired in 1984 while the owner was living and working in Lima, Peru. Purchased at Maroti Shobo in Pucallpa, a commercial centre for the Shipibo-Conibo people of the Amazon, alongside the Ucayali river.
The traditional open-fired clay pottery is crafted by women, with skills passed down through the generations.
