Romanesque Box Buckle. Circa 13th century AD. Copper-alloy, 30mm x 16mm x 29mm, 21.4g. in the form of a crouching lion with a human head turned, looking back and upwards. The body of the beast has traces of scrolled decoration on both sides. An impressive example of these rarely seen buckles.
