Falkland Islands. 1940 Real Photo picture postcard of Port Stanley East addressed to "Eng. Sub. Lt. J. Anderson, H.M.S Queen of Bermuda, c/o Naval, Port Stanley, Falkland Island" bearing Falkland Islands 1938 1d tied by black type V "TRISTAN DA CUNHA" cachet with a further strike away from the stamp, unobtrusive 1cm tear at base, otherwise fine and very scarce. The "Queen of Bermuda" was pressed into naval service as a troop transport in WW2 and was stationed in the Falkland Islands for a short time in 1940; on August 24th it stopped briefly at Tristan due to poor weather. Believed to be the only recorded item from this brief stopover with a Falklands stamp, just one other cover recorded from the ship at Tristan franked by a G.B stamp. A unique card. Photo on Page 224.
