A locomotive nameplate, HOWE, from a BR Class 50 D423 built by English Electric/Vulcan Foundry 3793/D1164 in June 1968 and renumbered 50023 in December 1973. Withdrawn from Laira in October 1990, it was cut up at Barrow Hill by HNRC in March 2004. It was named between May 1978 and October 1990 after the Royal Navy 1942 built battleship. Cast aluminium, length 26", in ex loco condition, the Swindon casting mark, V11553, clearly visible on the back. The loco was the first in the Class to be repainted in Network SouthEast livery, traces of this paintwork are clearly visible on the rim of the plate.
