ORIGINAL WATERLOW SAMPLE BOOK: Small blue hardback book, cover inscribed in gilt "WATERLOW & SONS, LIMITED, SPECIMENS OF STAMPS, 27 GREAT WINCHESTER ST., LONDON". Containing 24 pages, with interleaving, 19 of the pages having mounted on them blocks of 9 lithographed sample designs (19 different designs) each approx. 105mm x 130mm. We note essays for Siam (5), Morvee State, Bhavnagar Durbar, Bahawalpur (8) & Southampton (4). We believe that this 'specimen book' would have been used as a sales tool to demonstrate the quality of Waterlow's production c.1880s period.
