Engraved Coin: George III copper "carthweel" penny 1797 Fair, with the reverse engraved: '£50,000 a Year to a German Whelp "Leopold", Flare UP John Bull', this in protest against the annuity granted by the British crown/government to Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, who fought against Napoleon, and married Princess Charlotte of Wales, the only daughter of the Prince Regent (later George IV). Leopold went on to become the first King of the Belgians. An interesting political piece.
