A Possibly Unique Mid to late 18th Century Pocket Watch. Verge escapement. Made by the prestigious French watchmaker Ferdinand Berthoud (1727- 1807). Made of 18k gold and set with diamonds, rubies and emeralds. The outer protective case is made of pinchbeck. White dial with Roman Numerals. NOTE: The picture of the lady on the reverse of the watch is purported to be Mary Antoinette - who presented this watch to one of her ladies in waiting - there is no concrete provenance of this. Our horologist has looked at this watch and was impressed. It wound and worked well - obviously because of its age we offer no guarantees. Not supplied with a key. 5cm diameter. 75g total weight.
