Irish Police (Garda Siochana) 1940/50s motorcycle helmet plate badge. Good scarce die-stamped white metal smaller than the usual helmet plate (still with 1922 spelling SIOTCANA). Three loops. VGC Badge designed by John Francis Maxwell (1880-1948). Only a small number of these were issued before it was discovered that by making holes in motorcycle helmets, they broke the helmets safety integrity were discontinued.
