A RARE CHAMPION'S BRISTOL CUP, SAUCER AND SPOON OF THE DANIEL LUDLOW SERVICE, painted with bouquets of flowers and shield with The Arms of Camden of Ludlow, Gloucestershire, gilt, green and hatched puce borders, the spoon with shell moulded bowl and wavy handle, saucer 12.5cm diameter, spoon 11cm long, the teapot and stand of this service was illustrated in the Trapnell Collection, plate XXVIII No 216. This service appears to be the only named Bristol service recorded for which spoons were made (some enamel loss to saucer, cup good, spoon with small chip to edge of shell bowl). See illustration
Cup has two tiny chips to rim and two spots of flaking to the enamel on flowers.
The spoon is chipped at the tip, the three gilt dashes at the base of the bowl are painted over a rough surface and there is a residue between the gilt dashes.
Saucer has quite a lot of flaking to the enamelled flowers in the well and also the shield and gilt surround.
No cracks.
The gilt rim line on all items has a degree of rubbing.
