£8,500
Fine and rare second period hoop and spike brass lantern clock, signed on the lower front heraldic fret Richard Beck at Ye French Church Londini, over a 6.3" chapter ring enclosing a foliate engraved centre with single iron hand and central engraved brass alarm dial, surmounted by three heraldic pierced frets, strapwork, bell and finial, 15.25" high (weight) (alterations)
* The movement of this clock has been converted from balance wheel to verge escapement and, unusually for an English lantern, has a half hour strike
* The working life of the maker Richard Beck was limited to scarcely six years (1653-1659). He died aged 27 and only five clocks are known to have been made by him, all with balance escapements
This clock movement has been converted from balance wheel to verge escapement, the tail of the hand, rear cover and back cock for pendulum have all been replaced, the general condition appears very good for age, the bell has no lug just a hole through the top, see images for guidance, personal viewing always advised where possible
