An original wartime postcard written by Flight Lieutenant Bennett Ley Kenyon DFC (Prisoner No. 3135) to Miss June Kenyon, dated 29th March 1944 during WW2.
Ley Kenyon was an accomplished artist and was recommended to be am official war artist prior to his capture. After his capture he was sent to Stalag Luft III where he was asked by the Senior British Officer (SBO) to sketch every stage of the escape tunnel. Kenyon became the 'Forger' for what became known as 'The Great Escape' in March 1944.
Ley Kenyon was one of the seventy six officers to escape, but he was recaptured after being found hiding up a tree. The letter is written and sent just 5 days after the escape.
The letter goes into detail about parcels arriving and the state of the mail stating "the post is as upside down as the world!".
