A Japanese Meiji period satsuma vase of hexagonal form, decorated with panels of Samurai warriors in combat and a veranda setting with ladies and gentleman in a distant landscape within borders and panels of gilding. Red four character script mark to base. 41cms h.

More Information

Vase is in good order, just some very minor rubbing in the gilding around the top rim, the panels are good and clear. The inside of the vase whether applied or there at its manufacture is like a concrete substance, applied by hand (hand marks present) perhaps it was applied to support the body of the vase. There is a small chip to the inner bottom rim (see image). There is a small surface hairline to top of one panel (see image). After close re-examination, we cannot find any evidence of restoration.
