The Triumph Bonneville T140 is a standard motorcycle with a 750cc capacity engine that was designed and built by Triumph Engineering at Meriden near Coventry.
The T140 was the second generation in the Bonneville series developed from the earlier 650cc T120 Bonneville, and was produced by Triumph in a number of versions, including limited editions, from 1973 until 1983. The 650cc capacity production T120 Bonneville was replaced in the early 1970s by the T140 Bonneville – the same basic machine but with a 750cc engine. Refined from the later ‘oil in frame’ version of the T120, the first few T140s, designated T140V, featured a larger-capacity engine of 724cc, a five-speed gearbox and indicators, but still retaining drum brakes and kick-start. Shortly after, the engine was further bored out to 744cc and front disc brakes were fitted (using single discs until 1982).
Registered in 1979, this 750cc ‘Cafe Racer’ is built up from a 1977 Tiger frame and a 1979 T140E Bonneville engine.
It was the subject of much restoration work in 2011, which included new wheels, brake disc, rebuilding of the brake calliper and new braided brake lines.
The frame, swing arm and the engine cases were powder coated, and an alloy long range fuel tank fitted. It was also fitted with rear sets and clip on handle bars to Cafe Racer style.
Showing 10,700 miles, the bike remains is excellent all round condition. The engine is fed through twin Mikuni carbs with a Boyer electronic ignition and runs well, sounding fantastic thanks to its iconic twin pipes.
It is supplied with sundry invoices relating to the recent work and also has the added benefit of right foot rear braking and left foot gear change for those not used to older British bikes.
