AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY RUSSIAN ORTHODOX ICON, VIRGIN OF VLADIMIR, MOTHER OF GOD AND BABY JESUS, CIRCA 1800 - 1830
The icon body painted in egg and tempera, the composition in the embrace of the two figures, characterises tenderness, set with white metal gilded oklad with holy halos, the icon image firstly painted in Byzantine Constantinople in late 11th Century, bearing original label of Maria Andipas, Icon Gallery, London, SW3.
