Ballon Monte - Russia. 1870 (Nov 17) Printed Ballon Monte lettersheet to St. Petersburg, two 40c stamps well tied by "1" star cancels with Paris Pl. de la Bourse c.d.s and red "PD", flown on the "General Uhrich". Pressed horizontal fold crosses one stamp, no arrival c.d.s (as is usual for Ballon Montes to Russia) but clearly genuine, franked at the correct 80c rate (only found on Ballon Montes to Russia, Turkey or certain destinations outside Europe). An attractive item to a rare destination. Photo on Page 150.
