A fine and detailed needlework sampler worked in monochrome by Emma Manwaring, who finished the work in 1834: The samplers centres around “The Village Church” and features two verses, one relating to Wisdom, the other to “Father of Heaven”, the church set in grounds with various trees and plants, a large bird singing from a bough, beneath which small birds, butterflies, and deer are set within a variety of trees, leaves and urns of flowers. The alphabet and numerical section are placed at the top, with a Greek key border, the whole being bordered with foliage and perhaps harebells, approx.47 cm by 36 cm including the frame.
