1835 Valentine lettersheet by Dobbs, a fine embossed border with cupids and wording in French at each corner, the centre with roses, handpainted and cut into a cobweb, which lifts to reveal a cupid, bird and lady with a shield entitled "Tis vain to oppose", inscribed "To my dear Elizabeth" and dated by the sender. Posted to "Miss Agerst, E. Younger Esq., Bell St." with a "HENLEY ON THAMES" undated circle, charged 1d. An unusually fine and scarce postally used cobweb valentine. Photo on Page 68.
