WHITE STAR: An unusual pair of Sharman D Neill, Belfast White Star binoculars. Sharman D Neill were manufacturers of naval instruments, including military binoculars and telescopes based in Donegall Place, Belfast, during the late 19th and first decade of the 20th century. They became a limited company in 1909 and were well known as marine opticians, badge makers, watch and clock makers and later silversmiths, ideally situated for what was then an important seafaring city. The instrument is impressed S.D O'Neill Ltd Belfast White Star on the eye pieces.
