A set of four George III silver candlesticks possibly by John Carter II, London 1770 & 1771, in the Neo-Classical style, anthemion sconces with cluster columns and square out swept loaded bases decorated with swags, satyr and engraved arms, Butler of Kirkland quartered with Fleetwood, 32cm (12.5in), 3384g (108oz) gross John Carter, London silversmith, no record of apprenticeship or freedom. 1st mark entered 1776 although records show that he was already supplying candlesticks to Parker & Wakelin by 1769.
