A shoebox containing more than 300 standard-size postcards – the vast majority of which are foreign, but there is a real photographic card captioned ‘RMS Titanic sunk in Atlantic after collision with an iceberg, 1,650 lost 703 saved’ which was posted from Portsmouth on May 10, 1912 – the year of the disaster; and there are also some British royal naval vessels, also mainly printed – although the photographic ones include a Stephen Cribb image of HMS Invincible at sea. The foreign ones include Gibraltar, Argentina, Japan, Spanish bullfighting, a number with ethnic interest and there are 3 or 4 of the Falkland Islands (see photo). Most of the cards are in good condition but some have creases, one or two have corners missing and others have minor faults.
