A large mid Victorian copper medal commemorating the Opening of the New Coal Exchange for the Corporation of the City of London, dated 1849. Manufactured by B Wyon, medallist and chief engraver of Queen Victoria’s seals. Obverse depicts portraits of the Queen, Prince Albert, Prince of Wales and the Princess Royal. Reverse depicts a detailed interior view of the ‘New Coal Exchange’ in Lower Thames Street, London, opened by H.R.H. Prince Albert on 30th October 1849. Original presentation box included. 8.9 cm diameter. Condition report: Overall good condition. Some light age related wear. Viewing recommended.
