A 17TH CENTURY STYLE MARITIME 'MYSTERY' CLOCK BY HAROLD CARTER-BOWLES, 20TH CENTURY

the 14¼in. silvered chapter ring mounted on a brass bedplate with finial corner screws and engraved with depictions of Father Time and the Seasons and inscribed Carter Bowles / Inventit et Fecit, London, a brass mermaid holding aloft an escapement with decorative pierced faceplate with Neptune's head flanked by dolphins and seaweed and hour hand in the form of a fouled anchor hour indicator, counter-balanced by a swivelling relief of a galleon in full sail on a swirling sea, a small counter signed subsidiary dial with minutes and power train contained in an ebonised base with winding arbor to front, setting knob to rear and brass drop side handles -- 19¼in. (49cm.) high



Running well at time of cataloguing, silvering a little dulled to chapter ring.
