Genealogy: The Starbuck family of Nantucket. A late 18th / early 19th century hand written family tree relating to the Starbuck, Coffin, Mayhew and Franklin families, from Edward Starbuck of Derbyshire, through settlement of Nantucket and the family evolution until the last entry dated 1801. Within the various branches of the tree are noted Benjamin Franklin, 'the illustrious philosopher', Nathaniel Starbuck, then the integration with other families such as Barker, Retch, Griere, and Collbeck. Torn in half, measures approximately 73cm by 51cm. Part of the Starbuck archive being sold through this saleroom. The Starbuck family were prominent in the anti-slavery movement both in the UK and the USA. Having been involved in the founding of Nantucket, members of the family emigrated to Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, after the American Revolutionary War and continued their successful whaling business.
