IMPORTANT METEORITE SAMPLES AND LETTERS FROM THE NIZAMIAH OBSERVATORY, HYDERABAD, DECCAN ADDRESSED TO WILLIAM DENNING (BRITISH ASTRONOMER 1848-1931) Two pieces of meteorite inside an envelope on H.H THE NIZAMS SERVICE, INSPECTOR GENERAL POLICE AND JAILS, with letter addresed to W.F. Denning (William Denning), Hollywood Lodge,Cotham Park, Bristol. 'Dear Sir, I send you herewith a sample of material together with copy of letter explaining the circumstances under which it was found in the hope that it will be of interest to you'. Signed 'A.B. Chatwood' Arthur B Chatwood (1866-1915) was Director, of Nizamia Observatory between 1908 and 1914. The other letter reads 'Dear Sir, on the 18th February last at about 8 A.M. a loud sound like the booming of a gun was heard at a short distance from the village of Srikonda, Suriapett Taluka, Nalgunda District. The sound was heard by all, and when they went to see what was the cause of it, they found the ground had sunk a few inches deep at the place from which the sound had come, and small pieces of metallic substance were strewed all round.
