A “pair “of Chinese Rank badges, Qing Dynasty, Civilian rank, unusual in several aspects: no opening to either panel but the birds (or cranes) face in different direction and there are small differences between the two; the red background is stitched in quilting fashion, the bird stands on a rock edged in green, the bird has an applied eye, in relief, and is surrounded by bats, clouds, flowers, many detailed in gold thread, the border, with rolled outer hem, is embroidered with uncommon motifs with couched gold thread, backed in a patterned pale green silk, approx. 28.5cm by 28 cm (pair)
In unused condition.
It has been suggested that these could be Vietnamese.
