PATRICK BRONTE, 'Abraham, son of John and Rachel Cousin, Westcroft Head..' (19x10cm) a 'true copy from the Register of Baptisms, in the Church of Haworth, Yorkshire, P. Bronte, Mini[ste]r'. Written on the lower half of a quarto-sized piece of black rimmed paper with the puzzling docket title 'Certificate of Burial' overleaf. What survives here in Bronte's hand is the record of the birth of Abraham Cousin from nearby Oxenhope, a baptism officiated over by 'the Rev.d J. Charnock', Bronte's predecessor in the parish.
