Circa 1953. A set of five Queen's Beasts, designed by James Woodford R.A., featuring, the Falcon of the Plantagenets, the Greyhound of Richmond, the Black Bull of Clarence, the Yale of Beaufort and the Lion of Mortimer.
These figures were produced in Bone China, specifically for the Queen's Coronation vase, designed by John Wadsworth, which was a collaboration between Minton, Copeland & Sons, Doulton & Co., Royal Crown Derby, Wedgwood, and Royal Worcester. These are miniature versions of the ten Heraldic statues displayed outside Westminster Abbey at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The Minton factory manufactured the vase, and the other factories produced two of these Queen's Beasts figures, which are housed in individual alcoves on the base of the coronation vase. None were for public sale, Minton later produced a limited edition series, with a different base. Each stamped JW at the base, tallest measures 13.5cm. (5)
