JAPAN - RARE 42c-RATE COVER EX NEW YORK WITH 1867 30c (F GRILL) + 12c FRANKING VIA HONG KONG; Rare 13 Feb. 1869 EL from New York to "Yokohama" endorsed "P. C[ity of] Baltimore [steamer] via Marseilles" with 1867 12c Black (cut perfs. at left) and 1867 F-Grill 30c Orange (slightly overlapped) both tied by fine black 'Star' corks and by red h.s. "32" (Exchange office credit to GB), having fine red h.s. "1d" Accountancy Mark and red London "PAID" cds (25 Feb.) alongside, with inverted-date red "NEW YORK PAID ALL/BR. TRANSIT" cds and v. fine "HONG-KONG" transit cds (8 Apr.) on the top flap. Very rare ingoing mail to Japan at this early date. Exhibition item.
