'GREY' MALTESE CROSS & MATCHING "BAMPTON.D[EVON]" UDC ON 1d MULREADY LETTER-SHEET; Feb./May 1841 usage of the Stereo A21 1d Black Mulready letter-sheet (some edge wear etc. but attractive) sent from Bampton (Devon) to "Wellington, Somerset" most unusually cancelled by a very fine GREY Bampton Maltese Cross with a matching v. fine scarce "BAMPTON.D" UDC nicely placed on the top flap. The Bampton cds that replaced this UDC was issued on 6 May 1841 (PO Proof Book) so this Mulready must have been sent between 10 Feb. 1841 (when red MX ink ended) & c.8 May 1841.
