An Antique (Circa 1661) Japanese Samurai Sword. Tang markings of Bushu ju Yoshimasa (English translation) - please see tang etching photograph. A Japanese sword book (Fujishiro) has published the Tang marks and comments: Yoshimasa Kozukenosuke - Originally of the Noshu Seki Zenjo House, is called Tanaka Genzaburo, and he also produced in Tosa. His style resembles that of Yasuada - Please see full translation photograph. The blade needs to be professionally polished and has minor chip marks from mid blade upwards. The scabbard and handle have been replaced during WW2 and used by a Japanese officer. Handle length - 27cm. Blade length - 72cm. Total length in leather bound scabbard 104cm.
