A London-made Colt 1849 Pocket pattern single action .31 calibre percussion revolver, serial number. 1486, the barrel marked "Address Col, Colt London", the cylinder engraved with a scene of a stagecoach, 27.5 cm long Samuel Colt whilst exhibiting at the 1851 Great Exhibition in London, was staggered by the level of European interest in his affordable mass-produced firearms, such was the demand that he later established a factory in Pimlico near Vauxhall Bridge in London. The manufacture ran from 1853 to 1856 and so its production was limited, although it is thought that 37,000 Colt Navy pistols were produced at this location. A private collection The Colt
