A large Continental porcelain dark green-ground two-handled vase, 20th century, with black and gilt scrollwork decoration to the neck, body, and socle base, the neck and socle with gadrooned bands, the lower body and base with moulded acanthus leaves, the handles of S-scroll shape, enriched gilding to the handles and moulded features, 75cm high (A/F)
This large vase has undergone some restoration and has some visible signs of previous damages. Two large cracks and some associated losses are visible to the base of each handle, along with smaller cracks to the top of one handle. Around the circumference of the neck is a large crack which has mostly been repaired and overpainted but is visible in some areas. The base has signs of overpainting and restoration, and the underside has a thick layer of restorative glaze. Elsewhere there are visible scratches to the green ground and gilding, and wear to the gilding of the handles revealing a pink underlayer.
