FAMOUS PUNCH CARTOON OF SIR JAMES GRAHAM AS "PAUL PRY AT THE POST OFFICE" + ENDORSED COVER; July 1844 Punch magazine print (180 x 247mm; cut to neatly fit album page) showing Sir James Graham peering into the end of a sealed envelope surrounded by discarded (presumably opened) letters! The famous Punch cartoon ref. the "Secret Post Office" Anti-Graham Campaign that is often illustrated but rarely seen in this original form. [A similar example in Cavendish's June 2012 auction, lot 920, realised £240+BP.] Plus 3 smaller related 1844 ILN cuttings (one with an engraving of Duncombe), and a remarkable 5 Jan. 1855 env. ex "BUNGAY" (fine cds) to London with 1d 'Stars' tied by v. fine "147" numeral but having an anti-P.O. interference endorsement on the flap; "N.B. This Envelope contains nothing that would compensate the risk of indulging unlawful curiosity". The latter was sent almost 11 years after the Anti-Graham scandal!! (5 items)Cross Reference: SUFFOLK
