A black felt shako c 1870s, with patent leather peak, band and chinstrap, green wool ball plume in holder, and blackened star pattern badge with Victorian crown and thistle centre surrounded by "Nemo Me Impune Lacessit" motto, the inside of the crown marked "Cork Patent, Waterproof & Sunproof, Hawkes & Co, 14 Piccadilly, London, Sole Manufacturer".
